In this week’s segment, we discuss a recent conference held in Havana and Matanzas, Cuba, dedicated to the struggle against racism and racist discrimination in that country. The event was part of the United Nations declared Decade of People of African Descent.
But we begin with the issue of mass incarceration in New York City and New York State. The recent death of Robert Brooks at the hands of prison corrections officers has renewed discussion about the need for de-carceration and for the state to take action against the violence that the state is already aware of. Mayor Adams continues to obstruct efforts to close the Rikers Island jail in New York City.
